A Stardust Memoir

by Saul Trabal

Stardust changing over time
Alchemy of randomness and rhyme
Evolving into seeds of life
Harbinger of peace and strife

Dust takes its first breath
Dust takes its first step
It senses and interacts
It takes in the world's facts

Transforming, absorbing
Making decisions, forming revisions

In families,in neighborhoods
In dramas big and small
Dust plods through the gauntlet
Dust struggles through it all
Arguments over bills, food and rent
Over money too quickly spent

Moving onto the world stage
Dust marches on, making waves
Passing legislation, fighting wars
Dust does all this and more

Global warming, polluting all
extinction of creatures great and small
Dust brethren argue, laying blame
Cringing at their mountain of shame

Dust ages, dust falters
Dust begs at the altars
For mercy, for forgiveness
As it's lessened by sickness

Having lived many lives
Breathing its last, dust dies
Countless histories in its wake
Left behind for others to take

Absorbing lessons, the horrors
The triumphs, the honors
Making sense of it all
After dust's final fall

Back to stardust once more
Returning to the core
Of the red giant sun
After it's all said and done

Stardust rises from the ashes
After the sun's final flashes
Swirling through the void once more
Taking the path fate has in store
