Hues In Chaos

by Saul Trabal

You see them every day
You see them every way
The canvas of the human race
Sprawling across the planet's face

Are we preprogrammed to hate
Passing judgment on the fate
Of humans, sisters and brothers
Unleashing violence on our others
Broken bones, bruised faces
For alleged crimes against the races

White hot bullets at their best
Targets brought to eternal rest
White police officer, standing tall
Black men taking their final fall

The mirror is then reversed
Expired lawmen in the hearse
A black man responsible for their murder
Cycles of violence escalate further

Race and poverty cement fates
Of colored children at locked gates
Prosperity, stability...such delights
Remain far beyond their sights

Native peoples across the globe
Forced to acquiesce their hold
On their culture, lands untold
Threatened with violence, knees must fold

Light is perceived as right
Darkness the evil of night
Yet there are those of us who fight
To restore the blind to sight

The price for this paid in blood
The resulting tears a flood
Yet the battles must be won
For victories bright as the sun

An African American proved his worth
To lead the most powerful nation on earth
Scientists, scholars, teachers and more
Our brown brethren know the score

Much better to unite
Our hues merged in one light
Putting our planet in the right
Our unity brightness in the night
